In 1918, the look of Bucharest's central part was different from the one of 1940 in more than one respect. The boulevards on the north-south axis - I.C.Bratianu and Take Ionescu would be built in the next two decades, with geometric, white-grey blocks on either side, an expression of the European architectural modernism: the Creditul Minier and Creditul Rural blocks, the Scala and ARO buildings, the Carlton and Wilson blocks, the Magistrates' block and the block of the Mihaescu garages (now Ciclop), etc.
